When most people think about adoptions, they picture infants or young children; however, adults may be adopted as well.
There are many reasons that someone would chose to pursue an adult adoption. In some instances, an adult adoption may be sought when a step parent raises a child, the birth parent is deceased or cannot be located, and the step parent would like to provide for the child through their estate planning. Other times, a child may have been raised by a step parent and both parties are seeking legal recognition of the relationship as "parent-child."
